organizing: turn crates into a bookshelf

in small rooms utilizing every inch of space to its full potential is key.  boy, do we know this :)

the little guy's room is one of the smallest spaces in our house.  we even put a loft bed in his room to allow a little more "play" space.

he's getting older, getting more toys, and in need of  organized places to put them.  of course, he'd rather just dump everything in a pile.  we call him our "nester".

there is this space between his bed and the entry to his room where a bookshelf would fit perfectly as a nightstand/storage combo.  regular bookshelf's are boring :) and sometimes pricey. finding one the right hight, but to wide was difficult, too.  so let's make one :)

Michael's has these bare wood crates for about $13 each.  after a few weeks using those 40% off coupons, i had enough to turn into a bookshelf.

before painting them the same color as this, the hubs screwed them together for me. (i'm not a power tools kinda gal.  wish i was...someday, right?)

i'm kind of obsessed with crates, just check my crate board on Pinterest
♥ i just might start hoarding them

For the Love of Pallets

i love a good piece of sentimental art.  toss in little handprints or footprints and i love it even more.  my littles are 4 and 6 so those handprints are going to be small for much longer.

i came across this precious pin on pinterest that i loved, but wasn't sure i'd get to until a recent trip to archiver's.  they had these great wood pallet boards and i had a gift card...it was meant to be :)

a little white paint, one 6 year-old hand, and two four year-old feet later, and our piece of art was finished.

♥ created with love ♥

Sweet Little Blue Birds

So on Pinterest I saw these super crazy cute blue candy birds from Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle.
Unfortunately, because of food allergies, having certain candy in our house can be a little tricky.

But I HAD to make something like those cute little blue birds.

Instead of tasty candies I used river rocks, which I already had anyway.

A little cantalina blue paint, a black sharpie, and dab of orange paint later we had our own little birds.

I think they look sweet nestled in the tiny nest.

Boxwood Topiary

I love the look of a boxwood topiary.  I wanted to make a couple, but I wanted to make them for cheap.

After a while of keeping a look out for good deals I found a couple cute spring pots at Michaels for 40% off, and boxwood balls in the spring section at Hobby Lobby for 30% off.

In the pot I put Styrofoam and moss (which I already had).  The munchkins helped me find the straight sticks.

Total cost for 2 topiary's was under $10.  Yay for being thrifty!
