Gratitude

I'm not gonna cry over spilled milk.
Okay,...sometimes I want to cry when something has been spilled for the 3rd time in one day.

At the risk of sounding cheesy...I am grateful for the spilled milk, all those crumbs and goldfish crackers on the backseat floor of the van, the finger smudges on the walls, and the dinner battles over eating green veggies.

Because all those little things mean that my life has been blessed with two very busy little munchkins.  They inspire me everyday, and teach me how to savor the little things in life.

I am thankful for you, Riley and Nate.

Hello November

This November I'm hoping to do lots of Thanksgiving crafts and activities with the kids.  The ladybug is a little older now and can understand a little better the reason behind certain holidays.

Over at the Fryman Four you can find fun Thanksgiving themed crafts that help tell the story.

Many of the activities are based on this book.

By the end of this month I also hope to finish all Christmas shopping and prepare my December daily album.
I'm hoping it all gets done!
I'll share my December daily album when it's ready to go.

A new Thanksgiving dinner tradition (book of thanks)

I am so excited about starting this book of thanks this year!
This awesome idea originally came from eighteen25.

Every year on Thanksgiving, we will take a group picture with those we are celebrating Thanksgiving dinner.  We will each write what we are thankful for on the same page.  I love that this will become a precious family keepsake.

I made this book using my binding machine.
It's filled with 30 cardstock pages, enough to last 30 years.

The front page is filled with sentiments of gratitude found courtesy of Pinterest.

Last year we started a gratitude countdown that worked so well for us we will still do it this year.

We did this one each day of November during dinner.  The ladybug really loved doing this.  You can find more about this HERE.  It surprised me that she got more excited over this than the October candy countdown!  It was a pleasant surprise!

I love finding new holiday traditions.  If you have any you'd like to share, comment below, or come link it up at the Craft Catwalk.

Giving Thanks

I am blessed with so much more than I could ever fit into a list.
So these are only a few of the things I am most thankful for today...

  • for living in a free country
  • for the service men and women who are willing to fight for those freedoms
  • for always having food on the table, clothes in the closets, and a solid roof over our heads
  • for family who fill our lives with warm moments
  • for family who may no longer be with us, but left us with treasured memories
  • for chocolate and coffee =)
  • for good health
  • for ladybug and that she doesn't give up easily, finds excitement in everything, and loves everyone.
  • for the little guy and that he loves cuddles, has an endless curiosity, and will try anything.
  • for the hubs who is never judgmental and always supportive
 Happy Thanksgiving.
Hope you're enjoying lots of turkey and stuffing today!

Pennant cake or pie topper

You know I love a cute pennant...so I had to make one to top a Thanksgiving pie.  I think it's adorable!  Now I'm hooked and I'll be making tons of these.  The hubby will be having nightmares of mini pennants taking over the house.  But it's okay, because I think they're adorable.

How cute will that look on top of a Thanksgiving pie?!  Each triangle is double sided.  I kind of cut a diamond,  folded it over the string, and glued it shut.   When the colored bakers twine I ordered comes in I'll be making more.

Thanksgiving Countdown of Gratitude

Our November countdown is finished, and just in time.
Ta-da!

When I first saw this tutorial at Jellybean Junkyard I knew I was going to make one.
The idea is for each family member to come up with something they are thankful for each day in November.  Write down each persons response on the card for that day.  You can write on the back of the cards next year, or just add another card to the pocket.  I love that it encourages our family to be grateful, and it's a nice way to preserve memories.

Jellybean Junkyard gives a great tutorial for this board.  It can be a bit time consuming with all the cutting and gluing, so if you have little ones and want to do this...plan yourself a lot of time this weekend to work on it.  It is easy to make, but time consuming.  It is worth the result though!

(all the pretty fall papers I used to cover the pockets)

The only big difference in mine is that I used small craft bags to make the pockets instead of coin envelopes, since that's what I had.  After cutting them down my pockets were about 3" x 2.5".  Hers are a bit bigger.

The only thing I had to buy was the piece of plywood.  The nice people at Home Depot cut it down for me to 24" x 20".  It cost around $8.  The fall scrapbook papers I had collected over the last couple months, and the numbers and title I cut on my Cricut.

of course, I had to throw a cork one in there.

I followed the tutorial step by step.  If your interested in making one just head over there for all the details.

Thanksgiving Cupcake Toppers

I am so excited about a new item I've made for my shop!
I have a thing for cork lately, so I love these.

In the set of 12 cupcake toppers, 6 leaves are made from cork,
and the other 6 are made from textured card stock.

I also made a set of 12 tags to match the toppers.

I have some Christmas toppers and tags that I'll be adding in the next week.
Have a great weekend!
