How to Make Window Hearts {Kids Craft}

We had four "polar vortex" days off school in January.   We used that time to hide inside and create pretty things. These hanging hearts look so pretty hanging in the sunlit window. They make great Valentine gifts, too.  

Here's what we used:
~clear contact paper ~glitter ~little hearts (punched from paper, confetti, whatever you have on hand) ~fishing line, yarn, or ribbon for hanging

I tried using a heart shaped paper punch (Martha Stewart punch) on tissue paper.  So did not work, and the tissue paper just ripped.  Instead, I hand cut a few tissue paper hearts to add to the mix.  We mostly used ones punched from cardstock.  
We started by taping the contact paper to the table with the sticky side up.

They dropped the hearts and glitter on the contact paper.  This is the fun part :)  

When they were done, I put another sheet of contact paper on top to "seal" their arrangement.  Then I cut hearts from it, punched a hole in the top of each heart, and added something to hang it with.

If you are going to hang them in a window it looks best with fishing line.  

I think we've made about 10 of these.  They are so easy and pretty :)

Lego Valentines

Isn't it cool that they make Lego sets for girls now?  

Girls like to build too ;)

Here is our girl version Lego Valentines

We went to the Lego Pick a Brick website and picked some of those little gray plates with the hole in it.  What is that piece called anyway?

We picked out some other Valentine appropriate colors to add to it.

we were going to use ribbon for the necklace, but Hobby Lobby had ball chains for 40% off.

Heart Canvas {Kids Craft}

The kids had so much fun making this, and I almost want to make one by myself.

The finished product reminds me of a bowl of conversation hearts.

We made this festive piece on one of our polar vortex days. We gathered up our supplies  ~ a canvas ~ contact paper cut in the shape of a heart ~ dot art markers

If you don't have dot markers, you can use a sponge cut to a circle and regular paint.

When they are done painting just peel off the contact paper (or tape) and let dry.

I love it, and they loving seeing  their work hanging on the wall.

Valentines Day Inspiration 2014

Valentine's Day is two weeks away. Earlier this week it was around -30 degrees here, so it was fun just camping out in the house all day and avoiding the cold!  Perfect time to get festive for February 14th :)

The two framed hearts on the right are free printables from Tatertots and Jello.

I made the wreath, framed heart, and banner a couple years ago.  You can find those links here.

This year we added a few arrows in the mix.  I used sticks, felt, and a glue gun to hold it all together.  

We filled a jar with a little Epsom salt and added some sticks and wood hearts. 

A mini vial with Epsom salt and a paper heart.

Valentine Heart Wreath {without a hole}

Rolling these little flowers takes forever, but goes quickly late at night when the kids are in bed and I'm catching up on the DVR.  :)

I cut a big heart out of a piece of thick and sturdy cardboard.  I covered that with red paper just in case I didn't glue my flowers close enough and the cardboard peeked through.

I rolled the flowers using the same tutorial I used on this Valentine wreath.

A few burned finger tips later I had all my felt flowers hot glued in place :)

 Every single time I make a wreath, I always forget to attach the ribbon or wire for hanging before I start.  Every single time!  You would think I'd learn...sigh.

So when I was finished gluing and finally remembered, I poked through the cardboard with wire to attach a ribbon for hanging.  

I hope that holds...
