My Copycat Table Redo

We've had this little table from Ikea for a couple years now.  I never did anything with it beside covering the top with a patterned contact paper.  It was starting to look a little worn from tons of use by the ladybug and little guy.  After seeing Rachel's table redo over at Wild Whitney's I knew what to do with ours!

This was the before:
(just imagine it with lots of little cheesy fingerprints, random paint drops, and a few marker scribbles.)

And the after:

I used our state map and covered it with clear contact paper to protect it from all those little messes in our near future :)  Check out Rachel's tutorial for full instructions.

I love the look!

This Family Nest

This spring I am loving nests, birds, and butterflies.
So it's no surprise I adore THIS family nest by sjEngraving on Etsy.
It's on my wish list.  Hey hubs  - hint, hint :)

Until it's crossed off my wish list I've made my own version.
I used some rocks I had left from THIS project and a white paint pen to write our initials on each rock.

I like the idea of using rocks instead of eggs, because it doesn't seem like just Easter decor.  It's a nest you can keep out all year.  This could easily be varied to fit your liking!  You could write out full first names or use different color rocks for boys/girls or parents/children.

By the way,
if you've been reading my blog you know I really want to learn to sew.
It's a goal I intend to reach by the end of the year.  Well, after much research and saving my "pennies for play" I finally purchased a machine of my own!!!
And look what arrived on my doorstep yesterday...

                 {Woo-hoo!}

{I'm hoping what it says in the corner of the box is true!}

Butterflies, Nests, and Birdhouses

The last few days I've been adding a touch of spring indoors.  It's a reminder that spring weather is around the corner, even though we had flurries yesterdayFlurries!

I filled the milk jug with twigs and added in some little butterflies and nests,

randomly added a few butterflies to lamps and picture frames,

and I made a pedestal birdhouseI've seen a lot of these floating around blogland lately, and  they are absolutely adorable.  I HAD to make one.

I purchased an unfinished birdhouse and candle stick from Hobby Lobby, and followed the tutorial over at The Speckled Dog.

After hot gluing the birdhouse to the candlestick I stained the wood.

Then I painted it white and distressed with sandpaper.

Enjoy!

Spring Wreath

Last year I saw THIS wreath over at Moody Girl Projects.  Since then a moss wreath has been on my to-do list.  Then I saw THIS one at A Diamond in the Stuff and I was inspired to finally make one.

I'm liking it!

I used hot glue to attach the moss around the wreath and a small stick/branch to the bottom.

I attached some of THESE butterflies and one adorable little nest.

Ahh...now how about some of that spring weather?
